Hindu culture and traditions is that the women are everything yet nothing at the same time. Everything can seem good at first but also can be decievig to the eye. They belong to there husbands and are to do what they ask, in the story Mita is to be married to a man named Somesh whom she has never met before and knows nothing about. For Mita all she has known growing up is that people do not marry because of love, but Somesh teaches her differently and shows her what marriage can be.
Its Mita's big day the bride viewing, everyone was so excited for her and she has her friends helping her get ready for it there making sure she will glisten this evening. By the way that they described the whole event of her getting ready you could just tell that it was a very special day for Mita.
" If I'm lucky enough to be the chosen one." In India the son does not get to choose who is wife is, his parents are the one that pick for him. India culture the mothers make the brides wear a sari for good luck, and is only to be worn on special occasions.
Mita was scared a bit because she was getting sent far away from her family to United States to be with her husband, she wanted to cry but didnt because she knew that it was her destiney to be married and be with her husband forever. Yet what Mita doesnt see coming is that for her it wont be forever, Mitas husband dies and she is left with three options. One, is to marry the husbands brother, Two, go in as a nun, or die with her husband either one she chooses people will never treat her the same.
In conclusion India culture the women are everything at first but if there husband dies they all of a sudden become nothing to everyone and are looked down upon. I dont believe that it should ever be that way somethings just happen and either way the wife can not change it, and they shouldnt be looked down at with disgrace.
